Because I am now posting most of my images directly into my website, I will be using this blog largely for the writings that I always feel “go” with the images that I paint, the places that possess, or perhaps obsess, me here on Cape Cod, and in Canada. These writings may be directly posted to the blog home page or sometimes, if the piece is more formally composed, be listed in the Pages section in the sidebar under Places and Essays. You can view larger images of these works on my website. Collectors often request copies of the essays about the places that have inspired me. 
     Also I will be posting images and poetry that strike me as particularly lovely or important to my artwork to my home page. Plus I am working on video production for this blog and will have updates as to its progress.

Anyone who has traveled betwen Boston and Montreal in winter passes by a few snowfields just like this one. But my memories of back country roamings in my youth are what has generated this painting, and others that are forthcoming. Every northern artist will tell you that snow is loaded with colour, that it is a challenge to paint snow convincingly because to the artist’s eye it simply vibrates with colours that are almost impossible to capture. 

There is an hour or two late in the evening on Cape Cod Bay in Eastham, where the slanting sun infuses the atmosphere with an entirely new feeling, so unlike the summertime when the setting sun appears to swallow up the sea. These are uncertain hours; perhaps morning, perhaps evening, perhaps now, perhaps then.

This is my favourite painting, and it’s also the one painting I have permanenty ruined. I drove a nail right through the top while trying to frame it. Now the only place it will ever hang is in my living room, which is fine by me.
